They were sent 2 spare globes, 2 spare burners and 50 vaporisers which they nearly used all of them. Have you ever seen a burner used as much as the one in these pic's ?? Cheers Mark.
Fantastic! Cape Barren Island is a pretty isolated and wild place! Is 1953 the only date on all that stuff? Tony
Hello Tony I will get the box out tomorrow, the owner had little notes on all the old vaporiser packets. He sure did get some use out of that old burner. I wonder what they did on the island ??
There’s a small Aboriginal community there; an airstrip; and it’s serviced by boat and air. It was historically a sealing place, with a wild and troubled history. It’s a mutton-birding place. I’ll see what can find out about KG Neilsen. Tony
Great finds and I have found some very well used burners here in Shetland, but none of those matched the burner in your photos.
@Henry Plews Wow Henry, that makes mine look like NOS, Trust a pom not to buy a new one before it got to this stage. Cheers from a part pom from down under. Mark.
@Marko57 that burner was on a Tilley X246 which was part of a job-lot at a farm dispersal sale. One can only imagine how many hours it had burned, how many litres of vapourised fuel passed through it and how many vapourisers and mantles it had seen. The lantern it came on had obviously worked hard for a living.
