Hello fellas. I bought this Wenzel lantern today, and it has been used once some years ago. It is in, what looks like, mint condition, but I wonder is the control knob supposed to overturn ? Shouldnt it be like a knob for water hose - open few turns and then stops rotating and turn to close until you can not anymore. I was skeptical, so I used plyers to try and tighten the nut, but it wouldn't turn any more. I did scratch in the process, but this is least of my concerns at the moment. The instructions say, that the Arrow of the knob needs to be pointed Up, but I doubt that this is enough. I made a video too, that you can see here:
Welcome aboard! That lantern runs on paraffin / kerosene only and that knob just operates the pricker rod, it is not a positive shut off valve.
Welcome to CPL @emptyfolder The gland nut behind the control knob shouldn't turn as shown in the video. It compresses a seal on the shaft and prevents fuel leaking out at that point. Tighten it using the correct size spanner.
