    Hi guys.
I've got back to working on this fire bowl and got this far after installing the new ceramic thingy........ scoured out the font with kero and nuts, replaced seals, washers, and leather.
Fired her up and this is the result.

Can anyone tell me why the flame is outside the wire mesh and why is only half the mesh glowing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated by my wife who hates to see me cry alone in the shed.

I’ve had that happen with a worn vapouriser. A swap in camp with the vapouriser of my second, correctly working, Bialaddin bowl fire established the fact. Back home and having installed a replacement (used) vapouriser from my spares box and all was well again.

I concur with John that a worn jet is the most likely cause.

@presscall Thanks John, that never crossed my mind, because the flame was nice and blue with little or no yellow tails.

I recently received a Korean vapouriser in the post (it wasn't cheap) was gonna put it in my favorite lamp....a 300x... which would free up a spare bialaddin vape.

The fire bowl vape looks longer. Could I use the lamp vape to test out the fire bowl to make a definitive diagnosis, I could then try and source a good/correct size vape.

@Jeff Thanks Jeff I have fettled Tilley vapes (peening) before with mixed results. Might be worth giving it a whirl with this one if it turns out to be the culprit.

Got nothing to loose, and might even learn some new swear words ....

Do you mean the original Bialaddin vapouriser compared to your new Korean vapouriser?

    thanks

@podbros God, yes the old one .... the new one cost an arm and a leg. And according to the online currency converter that comes out at approximately €95.

It was $64 + €18 for a spare jet and needle...... then it got hijacked by customs and held to ransom which had to be paid.

The government calls it customs and excise but i prefer the honest term.....colonoscopy

I'lve got nothing to lose by trying to clean out the old one.

    I could get lucky....

    Well THERE'S the problem.....
Ya can't get any more definitive than this.

A new or fettled vapouriser should sort me out.

Also when I compared the two vapes they were the same unlike the Tilley heaters.

Thanks lads for the help and info 20250820_151132.jpg

WhatsApp Image 2025-08-20 at 18.37.20.jpeg Sooooo...... I took the vape from the nice glowy candescent M320 and put it on the Fire bowl, in keeping with @presscall sound advice and I though we cracked it. But no, it just doesn't want to play nice.

Both rigs are the same from the vape up. ( The one on the left is a firebowl and the one on the right an M320 ) So it has to be pressure related, one would think.
The pump must not be as efficient in the fire bowl I thought, resulting in a lack of pressure..... I'll swap the M320 pump over as well, I did that and this is what happened. Fifty pumps each. And a twiddle with the jet cleaner.

The vape and the burner works perfectly on the M320, the same vape and burner on the firebowl just wants to play silly buggers.
    Gave both fifty pumps.
The problem is beyond my limited experience. At this point I'm just groping in the dark, but not in the good way.

There’s no burning outside the mantle anymore, so that’s progress.

The same number of pumps, even with the lamp pump installed in the bowl fire’s pump tube, isn’t an assurance that the same pressure has been generated in both. Assuming there’s the same amount of fuel in each tank (yes?) I’d suspect the bowl fire’s non-return valve of not opening as readily as that in the lamp - its spring tension greater.

Another swap if you don’t baulk at the faff (!) and that would be the NRV’s. You’d need to empty both tanks to do that and could take the opportunity to get the same measure of paraffin into each tank. Less fuel in one than the other results in less pressure for an equivalent amount of pumping (NRV’s opening equally well).

@presscall OMG...why didn't I think of that, its so obvious, but only when its been pointed out to me. Brilliant suggestion, will try that before bed. Will top up the bowl fire and swap out the NRV from the M320.

Couldnt wait till bedtime emptied the fount, swapped the NRV refilled the font with 75cl of kero, heated it up and boom, 50 pumps and it lit great first time....:clap::clap::clap::clap:

    I think 50 might be a little too much....:shock::shock::whistle::whistle:

Paul, I admire your tenacity in getting it done before you turn in. Well done!

Finicky little things sometime, NRV’s. Too little spring tension and the pump operates sweetly but the seal is likey to leak air and push the pump back at you. Too much tension and it’s a bugger to get air through it at all.

    Your Bialaddin’s working great.

    John
