Just picked this one up, always wanted a Primus lamp. I could have wept when the seller said she had broken the original shade. It’s not a bad replacement but still……. I think the plating on the burner and bits is quite thin. This is one lamp that I would like to light, I have found just one mantle in my box of mantles.
Lovely! A double-tie Tilley style (I favour Juliands Ultrabright ones currently) work well with this style of burner Alec.
Is the shade in the first picture the one that was broken or the one you now have? I believe it is the first variation of the shade fitted to these lamps.
@Nils, the shade pictured which I now have, is the replacement for the broken shade. It does look good, even better with holder slightly straightened. It would be amazing if this was the correct shade.
comparing it to catalog images we currently have of the shade that is discussed in this thread i'd say it is a great match. wasn't it changed after 1934? frank daniel
I have seen one other 1015 from 1928 or 1929 with this shade and it also matches a 1929 catalogue picture (as Frank mentioned), so I would expect it to be an original shade for a 1015. The shade changed to the more common (relative word) melon or pumpkin shape in the early 1030s. I'm not sure when, but my first reference is a 1932 French catalogue.
Would an original shade really fit the shade holder as badly as we see here? Possibly. But it just don't look right with such a huge gap between the glass and the rim of the shade holder. Apart from that... it do absolutely look like the shade from the earliest illustrations.
Gosh, I’m quite excited now, it’s so similar. I don’t know where the lamp was found, the seller had owned it for a long time but I do know that this shade was purchased in Inverness.
Very beautiful lamp. I so like these Swedish made table lamps, they have a certain design flair that makes them very appealing and seem to be very well made.
Considering the lack of known original shades of this design, it is not possible to know how well they fitted. From the pictures I have of the other one I have seen, it looks like there is some gap but maybe not quite as much. They are quite low resolution photos though. Probably the best we will ever be able to say is that the shade is a very good match for an original. I would certainly be very happy to have one in my collection. If they have another one in Inverness I'd be interested.
