This amazed me. I have a copy of the workshop blueprints for the 606 and 169 vapourizers. The diameter of the tube is 0.380" It was noted on both blueprints in 1954 that the rig used for testing vapourisers has to be 0.381" and not permitted to wear beyond 0.383"
A few other details, - in 1953 the stem for the 169 was made longer by 10 thousands of an inch. - a vapouriser without the pricker is not a 606 or a 169. They are 606/6 or 169/6 - tested to 70psi - It seems these plans were used at least up to the end of June 1967.
A .001" tolerance is pretty tight considering the number of steps involved in manufacturing a vapouriser. Thanks Anthony
I wonder why they added 10 thou to the length of the vapouriser. Maybe to do with the position of the burner ?
How does the test rig appear like? 0.001" larger than the vaporizer is very tight tolerance. Quite a snug fit. What difference does ten thousands of an inch longer on the vaporizer make on the lantern? Its just slightly over the size of a 500cp lantern jet orifice. Perhaps more to better fit the existing test rig's dimensions?
