Hi Can anyone help me with replacing this washer, mine seems to be missing completely and my lamp is leaking from here under pressure. When I unscrew the nut completely on the jet cleaner. I can't work out how to actually get the washer on. Logically it feels like it should pull outwards once the nut is undone, but mine doesn't, and with the bakelite knob on the end i can't see how i can slide this washer on. Is the knob supposed to be removable? I'm also being really careful, so haven't tried any forcing it options, just gently pulling.
Thanks that helps a lot seeing how its actually attached. Anybody got any good suggestions on how to loosen these? Locked on solid at the moment.
Hi Andrew, you may be able to use protected pliers on the bakelite knob and grip the shaft with pliers or vice grips to turn but even with protection damage can ensue.. marking or scoring the shaft and even cracking the handle/knob ? After trying that i usually use the gas type ptfe tape wrapped around the shaft which i find works well, similar to graphite in other lamps cheers
Thanks I've spent the day trying that and saturating it in penetrating old and not even a budge. I was leaking from the nut on the cleaning jet, I used PTFE tape on the thread there after I gave up on trying to replace the washer, and so far no leak. So my $3 lantern from the tip is now fully functional. Now i need to decide if I'm going to try and repaint, or cut it back to bare metal. Thanks everyone for the help.
In the past I have used mole grips (locking pliers ?) with some leather on the stem and small pump (waterpump ?) pliers again with leather on the knob. Slightly tightening can sometimes clear the threads. Again after soaking in wd-40 or similar. Hot water might also help ?
