This is a Coleman 118B (or possibly 118BC), made in Canada, dated 7/37. There is no model number on the lamp (none stamped on the bottom or anywhere else). This lamp is with its original paintwork, although some has been worn and or polished off. If the paintwork is "brushed coppertone" the model designation would be 118BC. The filler cap is very worn and has been afflicted with being closed using pliers or multi-grips. There's no evidence of ever having "wings" on the filler cap. The lamp has had a pretty hard life. In the end I replaced the original generator with an old "New Old Stock" 242B generator (one with the wound wire spring and asbestos restrictor, but used the original "V" generator tip. "Made in Canada" / "7 37" "PAT. APLTD. FOR" (Note new screw holding air tube in place; it came without one). Very faded instruction plate on the control wheel. "Coleman Instant-Lite/The Coleman Lamp & Stove Co. Ltd/Made in Toronto Canada" Note also the fingerprint in the paint (about 4 O'clock next to the stamping of "Stove". The generator that came with the lamp is in this photo below. After bending back into shape and de-rusting. Before being painted with pot belly stove black. Up and Running This lamp is working very well. Details of the internals of this lamp are shown here: 1937 Coleman 118B and here: 1930 April US Coleman 118B Cheers Tony (@ROBBO55, @Toby Garner, @coleman54, @Akeepsake, @Sedgman)
@Tony Press Very beautiful. Beautiful shade. You can clearly see this lamp has been loved. I'm not envious at all. Thanks for showing it. Tom.
@coleman54 Darcy Vantiger has the painted Coleman shade as the third and last of the Coleman 318 shades (1925 - 1928). The last cardboard shade is a bit of a mystery, but most likely made for Coleman-Thomas Australia. I have been pondering the cardboard, and plastic shades that are found on a few Aussie Colemans. They are on standard Coleman fittings, but the patterns are not the same as Canadian or US patterns. And the stitching is \ rather than the more common /. I’m still collecting info, but will post something on this eventually. Tony
