Finally after more than two years I started working in this lantern and I found some issues, one of them is the rapid heater o-ring was hard as a rock and would love to know what’s the size to go to hardware store and get one, also the tiny screw in the manometer is missing. Does anyone know the thread size? Thanks
Sorry Pancho, not much I could help on the exact size. I'm more inclined to believe those would be metric sizes. Best is to measure the diametre of the groove where the o-ring is fitted, with a vernier caliper, but you'd need to remove the o-ring first. Is the o-ring likely to break if you try to remove it? If you'd like to easily remove it in one piece, I think you can temporarily soften the o-ring with some methylene chloride paint stripper. Allow it to soak in, soften and swell the rock-hard rubber. Then pry it out as usual. The softened o-ring would harden again once the methylene chloride has evaporated. You can bring the rapid together with the o-ring sample to a shop to ask for something fitting. Those manometer screws are very tiny and short. I don't think the nominal size is any bigger than M2 coarse or fine threads. Likely smaller. Again, you can first measure its diametre for reference with a caliper. Bring everything as sample to the hardware store to check with the storekeeper for the right size. Such tiny screws aren't always available from regular hardware stores in my location. Or you could salvage something from a Petromax or any similar clones. I'm not sure if their sizes are the same.
