On our recent trip to Tumbarumba I found this Handi Lantern that looked a little different.

Its a Swift Lite from 1936. I have newspaper Adverts to add when I get my scanner to co-operate

As found :- Handle was same as Kero Pet and had sprung askew possibly causing chip in glass. Has anyone got any details of original?

Nice find Graham. The Swift Lite doesn't turn up that often. The one I have with the same tank has a different handle shape. You can get an idea here. The part that sticks into the hood is only about 5mm long at most, so doesn't get near the glass. I have another Swift Lite that has a standard Kero Pet tank and it came with the standard handle, but cut off a bit.

I forgot to ask. How do you know it's from 1936?

Nice lamp Graham. Looks solid and you are a lucky potato to have the globe for it

I know you should never trust advertising pictures, but there is a Handi logo on the tank. It could be possible that they originally came with a transfer that has dissapeared with time on the existing examples.

Anyone have an idea when the change over was between the Swift-Lite and the Kero-Pet?

I seem to be short of info on these. I don't have the Swift-Lite recorded at all. I could therefore do with a couple of plain background side on images of the lantern and a shot of the label on the collar. Better copies of the adverts would be good as well if possible please. ::Neil::

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I was wondering if you could measure the glass on your Handi lamp for me. I have several unmarked ones that measure 11.2 cm or 4" outside diameter and 10.9 cm or just over 4 & a quarter inches high approx. Hope that makes sense. I hope to post some pics with this question. As you can see it fits this little Handi lantern rather well.

The standard dimensions for a Handi glass are 100mm diameter and 110mm high. Maybe they were originally 4" x 4 1/4". So far I havn't been able to find a modern replacement in these dimensions.

Couldn't find the word Handi on the glass, I have four of them and they are for sale on eBay.
    Cheers,

    Hello Nils
I know you should never trust advertising pictures,
I get what you have said about advertising pics.
In @Graham P second pic Nambour Chronicle Ad it has a Swift-Lite iron listed but the pic is NOT
of a Swift-Lite but the first model Handi Iron made, the price shown is correct for a Swift-Lite Iron.
My pic shows the first model Iron then the Swift-Lite and a couple that followed after them.
    Cheers Mark. IMG20250506122655.jpg
