Back when the forum was started, it was decided to put all Gloria product under the US Gloria forum, even if it was made in Australia. It can be debated whether that was a good decision or not, but as a compromise, can we get a sub forum under Gloria for the Australian made product?
Yes, I remember that discussion. Also about Coleman products from various contries. It was decided that lamps should be sorted mainly under brands, regardless where they were made. Your suggestion should surely work. What do you think, Ross? @spiritburner
@Nils Stephenson, @Carlsson & @spiritburner I, too, have been pondering this very subject, and discussed it recently with another collector. I think it’s a good idea, as many of the Australian Gloria lamps and lanterns bear no relationship to USA-made Glorias. There are some early ones that will be difficult to assess for origin, but I reckon we could get it to at least 95% right. If you want, in consultation with yourselves and other members and experts, I could do a list of entries that I reckon are certainties for an Aussie sub forum. Cheers Tony
@Tony Press This would be a good move, if it's made here in Oz it SHOULD be listed under made in Australia. Most of the aussie Gloria items we find here are marked so this would not be to hard to sort out. That's my 2 cents worth. Cheers Marko.
So that means that Coleman will get a sub forum for Canada, USA, England, Australia, Brazil and Mexico?
@Pancho I actually don’t think that’s necessary as almost all, if not all, Canadian, Australian, and UK Coleman models are the same as the Wichita models, with some small variations on parts and threads, and years of production. And the companies that made them were in close association with Coleman USA and licensed. For Gloria (and also Nagel Chase) the Australian company started out as a Gloria USA associate, but in the 1920s and thirties operated separately, and produced products and models not made by Gloria in the USA.
