Hi All I recently acquired 3 pressure lamps from my late brother’s estate and as I’m a pressure lamp novice I thought I would join here for all you to see and educate me. He had 2 handi works model 3 lamps. One in pristine condition and one used. More of a back story on these to come and a Coleman 282 Dual Fuel also in pristine condition. Cheers Paul
Welcome to the forum and they are some nice lamps. They would go well in the reference gallery with lots of detail photos.
Gooday @Paul Gent They are a few nice lanterns that all burn well. I have not seen the Prince brand mantles before either. All three lanterns probably need new washers unless they have been serviced recently. Even a pristine unit from that time period will need maintenance to be safely used. check out the safety lecture in the pressure lamp discussion forum. The safety lecture for beginners welcome.
Welcome to CPL @Paul Gent Three nice lanterns. I would suggest starting with the used Keropet so you get an understanding of how they work. And it should clean up nicely. Ask questions when needed. What part of Australia? There may be a member close by. Handi Kero-Pet
Thanks all for the welcome. I’m not 100% sure what I will do with the lamps My brothers interest developed when he was employed at Handi Works. He started his working life there as an electroplating apprentice in 1980 and remained employed there until 1986. The grey top lamp was given to me by my brother and used on many camping trips. I gave it back to him when I moved to other forms of camp lighting. I’m unsure of the date of manufacture but I assume it was during the period of his employment. The black top lamp, as can be seen in the paperwork, was tested for use in February 1985. So definitely manufactured during his employment with Handi Works. I will retain the black top lamp due to his connection with its manufacture. The grey top one I’m undecided whether to keep, refurbish or pass it on. I believe he acquired the Coleman as he was a bit of a collector of things and because of his work history with Pressure Lamps. I probably not retain this one and pass it for someone else to appreciate. I realise that these lamps should be used and appreciated as they were designed, but for me there is more to it. I live in Bargara Queensland Cheers Paul
@Paul Gent Regarding the additional documentation you recently provided. Fantastic to see good documentation about someone who actually worked for an Australian lantern / stove manufacturer. All these small pieces help those of us researching same. Thank-you and very interesting.
It’s great to hear such positive feedback. I will endeavour to take some better pictures and post them in the appropriate galleries when time permits
