I just purchased a Tilley R1 heater. Kerosene is leaking around the control cock. I pulled it apart and the gland nut washer is stuck in the gland nut; it is really hard and is coming out in little bits. 1) Any suggestions to get the rubber out without damaging the brass. 2) I have a Jet Cleaner Gland Seal V28 for a Vapalux lamp from Fettlebox. Can I use this as a replacement washer? It looks the same as the Control Cock Gland O-Ring 234 from Fettlebox.
#1 is solved. I found Neil's post on using a blow torch. #2 I am still working on it. I tried a washer from my Vapalux repair kit, but they appeared to be to big. Can I use some packing of some sort or some other sized washer?
Great ! yes, burning them out is fine if you have a suitable place to do it alternatively a small screwdriver can be used carefully :-) there must be suitable ’O’ rings available near you? perhaps a plant hire equipment company would be persuaded to part with one or two for a suitable sum? alternatively ’The Fettlebox’ here at CPL can send you some??? good luck regards pb **edit** at a pinch you could use gas type ptfe tape??
Thank you! Yeah. I'm going to order the washer kit from the Fettlebox--there is nothing in the States. And, I am going to try some ptfe tape until the washer kit comes in.
