Can someone here at CPL tell me if this lamp is for gasoline or kerosene.
There is no number on the lamp.
    Thanks in advance.

I see a pre-heat cup. That suggests to me Kerosene.

I checked my collection. There are six Ditmar Maxim 501s.
    The backs all say "Maxim"
The fronts look like this :
    April 1933 = nothing
    March 1935 = " Ditmar" only
    April 1936 = " 501 Ditmar"
    December 1937 = "501 Ditmar"
    January 1939 = "501 Ditmar "
January 1941 brass = "Ditmar" only , but this lamp also has plaque on the lower frame ring "MAXIM Type 501" .This lamp is "Made in Germany"

Yes,all Ditmar 501 lamps are kerosene lamps.
At the same time, the almost identical Ditmar 503 was manufactured. This was a gasoline/petrol lamp.It differed from the 501 in its thin gasoline vaporizer,shut-off valve, heat shield , mixing tube and tank cap without a drain valve.
The Ditmar 501 and 503 were replaced by the 506 and 513 models during WW||. The 505 likely appeared after the war.
