Hi Folks, I just wanted to say hello to you and hope you all had a merry Christmas.. . I am from germany and in to pressure lamps for several years. I own two petromax lanps but most i love my two Tilley X246
Welcome, I see that you're not very far from Düsseldorf where I lived in the late 80s. I have forgotten most of the German I once knew, I was only there for three years. But I still remember the good times I had.
Thank you lads, good to be here. when I was in the Army i saw petromax in fieldservice around 1996. End 90s they we're all retired. Are there pressure lamps still in military service somewhere these days?
Hello Bearded Dude! I am also new to the forum, and just happened to find your messages as I find my way around the site. It made me smile when you mentioned your Tilley Lamp. I have a friend living down near Frankfurt (I worked at the Airport for a few years), I sent him a picture of all my Tilley's operating, he had never seen such a thing, and said one would look beautiful on his patio. I decided to present him with one, and I brought it over from the UK last summer on my motorbike. When we checked the manufacture date it was 1972 - Same as his Birth year! He is very happy with it, and now we know there is at least two Tilley's in Germany! Regards Mark
Hi Mark. Thanks for your reply. Stunning. How many Tilleys do you own? I only have two Tilleys ans two Petromaxes... Last week I wreckef one Tilleys Glas bowls... Shame on me
Wow, that was a quick return message! I probably have maybe 10 Tilley's now, plus lots of others - My Wife is convinced I will explode the garage! Look for my post "Newbie" in recent posts, or I think you can just click on my name, you will see some pictures of some of my lamps. If you are ever struggling for Tilley spares, because I know it is now very expensive to post things from the UK, thanks to the famous "Brexit"! I visit my Buddy quite regularly, I can always bring stuff over and post it on to you from inside Germany? I was stationed not so far away from you, in the 1980's, at the British Royal Air Force Base at Wildenrath, near Monchengladbach, now a Railway testing area for Siemens I believe? I had a wonderful time there discovering German Beer, Bratwurst and Asbach Brandy! Regards Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for the fast reply again. Right now I cannot type much since i am hunting wild boars this night in the woods here.. i will answere tomorrow. .. good bitte and Waidmannsheil as we hunters here say
Greetings! Hattest du erfolg bei der jagd? I hope that is correct? That is about the limit of my German I'm afraid! I just wanted to share a couple of pictures - One is giving my Friend a Training Session in how to light Tilley, all the guests around the table were amazed! Second is of my little collection of Asbach Brandy - A little bit of Germany in the UK. (Not sure why there are two copies of the first picture! Take care My Friend! Regards Mark
I see that you've got some bottles of Asbach brandy there. We bought some of the 15 year old brandy last year.! I remember it fondly from my time there in the late 80s. @Bearded_dude, there are some of us girls here as well.!
Certainly is Apfelkorn! Nothing better to numb the extremities when camping, and it's really cold and miserable!
Camping is definitely not for us.! We like our home comforts too much for that.! I've got to get a bottle of that, I've got a set of glasses. Unfortunately I don't have enough room in the fruzzer for it...
Welcome @Bearded_dude @Mark Hodgson Nice picture of the Tilley lamp in action, but if I may make a suggestion, I would put a lid on the alcohol bottle at that proximity.
