We were camping at Steelhead Provincial Park and had my trusty early nickel font 200 killing bugs. I've been hankering after a 237 for a long time and on the return journey down the Canyon Hwy I followed my nose and found a junk shop. My son spied a Coleman lantern & 505 stove. I bought this! Its barely used and basically unmarked. The decal has a ripple in it (Any ideas on sorting it?) The ventilator is in fine shape. I can wait to fire it up! Cheers Thos
Nice lamps these. I prefer the style of the 237 but the 639 works just as well and it looks like you scored a very nice example. ::Neil::
Thanks Neil, After looking at all the 237s here, I've been keeping my eyes and ears open for one, but no luck so far! This 639 is in pretty good shape, probably requiring minimum fettling with. I haven't drained it out yet or lubricated the frame nut. I'll do that when I get ready to fire it up. Cheers Thomas
Well here it finally is! My 639 earning its keep at our Scout Troop KickOff Camp. We had a storm and that ezyup pulled up its pegs and landed on my tent at about 0200hrs! (My Kelty tent was fine and I didn't wake up until after it had been pull off the tent!) Lantern was undamaged!(It was too hot to put into the Coleman plastic case when we wound up for the night, now I won't let that happen again!!!!) The lantern performed brillantly even when used in "dim mode" with the tip cleaner as a regulator! It immediately cranked up to blinding mode when the tip cleaner was rotated down after about 100 minutes of low output! Please note that this photo was taken with a flash which makes the lantern output appear dimmed, but believe me even with a new coleman #11 mantle, it lived up to Mr Coleman's claim! Mr. Coleman would be quite proud of his Canadian venture! Nice, tough, dependable lanterns you can count on.
