I am considering using a Caswell sealer kit on an old lantern. Doesn't leak bad but it leaks.. I would like someone who knows to tell me how much of the inners I need to take out. Valve and air tube? Fuel cap? And the one I'm not sure of, the check valve. Thanks
If it's a Coleman lantern you could leave the check valve in but after you've turned the fount to ensure an even coating of sealer, be sure to pump some air through to make sure the snorkel is clear. If the check valve sits in the fuel you'll definitely need to remove it. Plug the hole with a twist of kitchen towel to keep the threads clean. Definitely remove the fuel pick-up tube and again, plug the hole to keep the threads clean.
@Paul B I connect a small fish tank air pump to any small pipes like fuel pickup and leave it going until the sealer has cured.
Sorry for the daft question, but what purpose does the pump serve? Is it just to keep some air flowing through the tank during the curing? I found a little fish-tank pump in the garage. Not sure where it came from as I've never had any fish!
Hi @Sooty the only daft questions are the ones we don’t ask? We are all still learning here i know i am Yes, it will help air circulate which has to be a good thing ; but it will also push air through holes that could also be blocked by the sealant regards pb
