Today was a day to fettle. And as I fettled, I noticed that I was reaching for the same group of tools throughout the day. A spanner, a wrench, my magnifiers, and even the tap & die set. So here's a photo of my helpers for today, and I'll ask you to share a photo of the tools closest to your hands and lamps!

My favourite is a bent pin, for removing the NRV pips in the brass holders.

Mine are a tray of wad punches for making my own seals, the Viton rubber for the seals and some odds and ends of hand-tools. The most important of these is the strip of leather for inside the pipe-grip jaws, and the bag of ball bearings for tank cleaning. This is a good topic, because until the question is asked, we take all these tools for granted. I would not want to lose any one of them. Steve

I'm going to add that my magnifiers are my most important tool. Time is catching up with me, and I simply cannot see the small parts like I used to.

The Petromax spanner has been coming in quite handy lately!

    Here they are.
These are practically the only tools I need to fettle most lanterns and lamps. With a small adjustable spanner and a 5.5mm screwdriver I can dismantle a lantern as much as I generally need.
The cold chisel is not used in the brutal way it was supposed... it's only needed for those rare occasions when the nrv needs removal since it's my best tool for this (when I was looking for a bit of good steel to file out the slot from, it just happened to be the best thing I first layed eyes on which also had the correct diameter to fit a pump tube snugly).

Very nice Christer! And it looks like you have the right screwdriver if your lantern every tries to give you a shock :) I like the well-used look of all of them.

My favourite tool is s small pair of parallel pliers that belonged to my late father. No matter how you use them, the jaw faces are always parallel. Don't know how old they are but they are marked "Barnard No 106-5". I think they are American:
