This has been sitting in my to-do pile for a couple of years and I finally dug it out today to see what it needs.

It cost £7.7.6 in September 1966, in NZ. Adjusted for inflation that’s about half what they cost today. I paid NZ$55 for it.

the box is in sad shape but the manual is still legible.

Some enterprising sort has fashioned a reflector out of a slice of oyster tin.

it needs a good cleaning and the needle needs replacing but it takes pressure.

I plan on using this one but I would welcome suggestions for how to stabilise the box.

    Thanks.

I love the reflector. A nice bit of using what was at hand. I wonder how you can call tinned oysters 'fresh'. :)

I would also be interested. An idea I have had, but havn't tried yet, is to get some thin cardboard or heavy gauge paper and glue to the inside of the box panels using wallpaper paste. It would be interesting if others have a solution that has been tried and works.

    Nice lantern, well build.
I guess you know that the Tilley pars don't fit.
Is the needle broken? If so check if a part is stuck in the jet. Mount a 500cp U-shape mantle (coleman) and fire her up > enjoy !

As for the box: I don't know. Clear varnish or clear lacquer from a spray can may keep it in good condition. But in general they don't stay in a good condition when used.
Build a nice wooden box for her or buy a metal BW NATO box.
