Hello, I would like to detach the wooden handle on the Primus 994 table lamp, to polish the tank and refurbish the handle. After removing the top nut under the spirit cup, do you turn the upper part counter clockwise to detach it from the handle? It seams like extensive force here may cause damage to the any inner fuel pipe going to the tank. Also does any have any pictures of the primus 994 or corresponding wooden handle table lamp with the handle detached? I have not been able to work out the inside of these lamps from the reference material/other threads.
Hi Daniel, a 994 is a nice find as they are one of the nicest looking Primus lamps in my opinion. They work well too. The valve block (for want of a better name even though there is no valve in it) is screwed onto the central tube using a tapered thread so it is extremely tight. I have usually had to use the heat and quench method on the block to loosen them in the past. This requires a wet rag around the top of the handle to stop the wood charring. The only reason I took the block off was to paint the handle, so blistering paint was acceptable.
