Hi all, here's a 159x which I picked up missing a shade, globe hanger and finial. Did the required dirty work and got this lamp looking and running well to start, purchased a few parts including 220 globe hanger and a finial. I found a suitable shade frame from a second hand store, and cannibalized the frame to make something heat resistant out of linen canvas and leather. Fairly happy for a first go at this kind of shade making, pretty happy with the lamp as it is!
Thank you both, I am pretty happy with this one. @ROBBO55 the lamp is dated Sept 1950. The previous owner of this lamp took the paint off the fount and handle, and did quite a good job of it fortunately. The inside of the fount however needed work, and the r55 needed to be rebuilt. I spent a fair bit of time rebuilding the gen in attempt to get it running perfectly, and ended up with the slightest occasional flicker. I then replaced the gen with a NOS r55, and it was exactly the same so just came to the conclusion it's how the r55 runs. I also have another table lamp with a q99 gen, it runs so unbelievably smooth and quiet, I guess I was just chasing this. Either way it does run beautifully, and now I have a spare r55 gen.
@Liam P Liam the lamp and shade look great but I am puzzled by the date you mentioned. The Coleman book lists the Canadian made 159X as being from 1956 to 1971. Could the 9 50 be something else like 9 59 or 9 56 for example? The book is not always right either but I thought I'd query the date anyway. PS the handle looks in great condition. On many lamps of that era there is burnt or scorched wood.
That's interesting Sedgman, I don't have a copy of that book... It's on the list though! I'll attach some photos, there is a rust spot over the stamp and this photo is not the best but it's all I have on hand now, but I can assure you it looks pretty clearly marked as 159x in person. I too am pretty happy with the handle, I can't take credit for cleaning that up however as the previous owner did a pretty good job with it.
