I just got this and replaced every seal inside and out. Runs well when running... But I don't know if I'm preheating it right. I fill the spirit cup with denatured alcohol... Even did a double preheat and when the flame are still warming if I open it up it will flare and send a few yellow flames out the vent... Then run. Hate always getting soot off... Doing something wrong? Waiting for a part for the blowtorch preheat device but read you can start these by preheating
The preheat torch works and seals but definitely squirts more than burns...makes it worse trying to preheat
The pissing is what I found out is caused by an not fully cleaned and or opened little hole in the blow torch, or not enough pressure in the tank, or both,
Your preheating method using meths/alcohol is correct, but let it heat for a bit longer, it's best to preheat lanterns indoors. That is a grand old lantern.
@Loe ok that was it. Didn't realize there was a cap underneath the torch. Found 3 holes in it and pricked them out..brass brush and carb cleaner...yep works now.... Thanks for mentioning that! @JEFF JOHNSON I just had my 5th successful start... But no more soot. After fixing the torch I started with denatured alcohol and when it goes out I try the torch for about 20 seconds... Starts right up easy every time now. Waiting for it to cool off to start again. Thanks for the help!
