I bought and restored the Cable houses in Hearts Content, Newfoundland Canada. Built in 1882. I found this lamp in one of the rooms. Can anyone explain in detail how it is supposed to work and what type of fuel it takes. Thanks
Hello, it's a gravity fed lamp and the link below shows the relevant gallery pages and as far as I know the fuel was petrol / gasoline. Gravity Lamps - all makes
These are great lamps. The first time I got one going I was left wondering why they needed to improve them. They run on gasoline which now days means Coleman fuel or shellite. Make sure there are no leaks and the shut off will actually shut off. Have the jet pointed at the centre of the pipe. They are not that fussy about being a bit off centre. Heat up the curly bit with a match, open the tap and thats it. Getting a mantle to fit is the tricky part but lets pass the first base first. If you don't get it right first time and liquid fuel goes down the pipe, you have to empty it before trying again.
