We had a good evening this year. Henry and I were Joined by Stu and between us had around 30 lamps on display. Pretty good too because only one and a half failures which is a better average than normal. Here are some pics of our display. ::Neil::
Hi Neil, That was a very good display you Henry and Stu put on, well done indeed. Did they get a good number of the public turn up that evening to see them all the lamps a light? Jim
Nice display there Neil and lots to view the Wells flare lamp looks intresting in picture 6 never seen one of them alight before would love to have seen it pete
WTF's a Wells flare lamp..? Is it one of these? Bottom left - image courtesy of the website above - Grace's Guide.
hi dave and paul yes i have 4 of the kettle lamps here no 18s its the hung flare lamp in the bottom left advert is like the one in the photos i think paul not sure of model number says its a petrol lamp i always thought these things were parrafin lamps learn something new again!! pete
I have an 18 and a 20 but that is all I seem to be able to afford. I've never seen one of these flare lamps in the metal.
In those days Pete, parrafin was referred to as petroleum oil, an American wording..and not petroleum spirit....you sometimes find it wrote on railway lamps....
That particular Wells flare lamp is owned by John Kidger who demonstrated it at a Historic Lightig Club meeting a few years ago. It is a paraffin type and gives quite a good light. ::Neil::
I thought i had seen a parrafin one once Neil strange in the above advert it says naptha so maybe came in both type depending on jet size or burner type nice intresting lump to see pete
