Have just disassembled another lamp I aquired and the mixing tube and its holder have been damaged some what. Just wondering what the safest way there is to make it round again (see pics)and remove the dent from the mixing tube? At the moment I can not unscrew it and my thought was to apply some heat and make the brass somewhat supple and gently tap with a light hammer to try and make it round so as I can unscrew it at least. Then try and remove the dent from the mixing tube by making a wooden plug in a similar shape as the end of the tube a tap out the dent? Thoughts? Am I going about this all wrong?
i remember dismantling burners and made special tools to clamp parts to prevent damage.. but because the air tube threads are very fine and quite delicate its best not to undo them as the years of heating and detritus that builds up on them contrives to damage those threads as you try to unscrew em? occasionally you do come across some that haven’t been used much and are removable but always best to leave in situ wherever possible.. where the dome or mixing chamber part screws into the burner, as you noticed, the burner body can go a vaguely triangular shape.. if the dome can be removed then a small amount of exhaust paste can help to seal or even copper grease, if the gap isn’t too large this burner has had a hard life but was probably still being used.. the air tubes have drooped noticeably..
