Hi all, This is the 100 CP gasoline fed gravity Economy Gas Lamp Co. No.1, lamp. The patent is very early and granted in June 1898 to the Economy Gas Lamp company, Kansas City MO. The lamp setup is very similar to many of the American lamps to come, with an overhead generator and a gas burner with an upright mantle. I was surprised to find that the lamp frame was made of steel and not like most later American lamps that were made out of brass. This lamp had been nickel plated but the surface was rusted and bad, so I had a hard job to clean it up. I had to made a new gas burner from parts I have stored, but otherwise all parts except the fluted shade were there and cleaned up well. These type of lamps can be a bit tricky to light. The main problem is to get enough heat to the overhead generator, so the vaporisation of the fuel is optimized. With the chimney, upright mantle and the copper chimney holder ending, all is fine. But as you see in the image from the Bunsen flame without these three components, the performance is a bit "weak", with a lot of white streaks. All in all... a successful lighting try with a nearly 130 year old lamp. /Conny before ....
