These are a 550 cp single mantle kerosene lantern. They have a kero preheater cup with screen and were supplied with a small rubber bulb on a chain to add kero through the lighting hole to the preheater cup and wick. I have two of these lanterns but the bulb is missing on both. I found they do not work too well on just kero as they seem to run just a hint too cool and tend to blacken the mantle. This one is running here on a mix of about 85% kero and 15% naphtha. Herb Ebendorf reckoned these were made between 1978 and 1984 with a total of about 15000 manufactured. He has to be wrong about the dates though because I have one dated November 1976. ::Neil::
They are not common lanterns. Like most kero lanterns never sold in great numbers in the US and I guess this one would have been slightly more expensive. Neat and powerful but like all later production a bit prone to rust. ::Neil::
