Hi is there a right way and a wrong way to strip the pump on a x246a tilley as i need to replace the cup washer and the vapourizer washers ,as you can guess i.am new to this and everything is a learning curve many thanks boater John
Hello Boater, Here's an thread that I put in the Coleman Collectors Forum for folks over here that have limited exposure to Tilleys. I think that it should answer your questions. http://colemancollectorsforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Fettling-your-Tilley-6040639 Since you're saying that you're new to this, I'll remind you to soak the new pump leather in oil for a good day or two to soften and seal it up. A dry leather is pretty much useless. (Soaking an old leather can sometimes be all that's needed to get it working again.) Al As far as right or wrong, just be gentle. If a part is stuck, use some penetrating fluid and give it time to loosen. Leather on the jaws of pliers or a wrench help to eliminate scars...
Hi Al thanks for the information ,It is a good job I asked as I didn't know about soaking them in oil . many thanks Boater
