My 15 year old car just went over 250,000 miles (416,666 km) and still gets 25 mpg (11 km/l) I'm pretty darn happy!

I see you can still afford the luxury of filling up with fuel, unlike many of us here in U.K.!

It stings the budget, but no where as much as it does you. I traveled through Canada last month, and gas is 25% more expensive up there. ouch.

This reminds me of my Dads 1980's Saab 900's. He'd wait until they'd done at least a couple of hundred thousand miles before getting another, and there was still loads of mileage left in them. They didn't let him down once and I don't remember him having to replace any non-service items.
What kind of car is it?
    Cheers

This is a 1998 (bought in Aug. 1997) Subaru Forester with a manual transmission. I have had two significant maintenance issues, but nothing that warranted replacing the car.

    - Head gasket
    - Front and rear struts

Just brakes and bearings beyond that.

    Al:

Subarus get high raitings from people I know. My son had one he bought new some years ago. Unfortunately, it was totaled when a large oak fell on it during the recent hurricane. He was in the car at the time, but is OK. The tree fell on the hood / bonnet. We're thinking about a new car, and Subaru is on the short list.
