    Can anyone please help ?
I have recently bought a new Anchor 950. It cost £38 inc postage, which i thought was a bargin for a smart shiney lamp...... but gettin it going is another story.
After a short while of pumping up the pressure, paraffin begins to leak, quite quickly, from the pumping shaft. This happens well before any pressure is registered on the guage.
I have checked the leather cup and even dropped a spot of oil on it to help the seal ( it didnt help)
Id be grateful of any advive
    Thanks

Hello Neill, the seal in the non return valve in the bottom of the pump needs to be replaced.

So you need to remove the valve, but for that you need the proper tool or a steel bar with the proper size of notch cut into the bottom end of it, Jeff.

Hi Jeff and thanks for getting back to me.
The knotch in the non return valve appears to be a brass "flat head" screw style.
I might try using a flat head normal screwdriver to remove it, or am i missing something ?

    Thanks
    Neill

Hello Neil, if a screwdriver will do the job then that will be much simpler, it's best to tighten the valve a touch first, as that will help to free it and then unscrew it.

When you manage to remove it, then you will need to get into it's working parts, the valve should come apart, (unscrew if I recall correctly), then you will see the spring and the rubber seal, Jeff.

That sounds like an achievable repair, even by myself,
Thanks for the swift clear advice. I'll report back and let you know my results

    Hi Jeff

The non return valve came out as you described, to discover the seal was missing. After replacing the valve with added rubber washer i gave it a whirl.

This time it reached pressure much quicker and i got my first ignition using the meths pre-heat pan but soon after it leaked like mad again. Arrr

Iv found a company that sells petromax parts, so for around £5 i can buy a better quality part

    Hi Norf
I think i need a new pump valve for the Anchor 950.
I re-fitted it with a new washer but it still leaks like mad.
Is it possible you have a spare ? Ive tried to contact "The Base Camp" spares shop, but their phone system is down.

    Regards Neill

Hello Neill, was there a spring inside the valve? Jeff.

If it's the same as a Petromax there needs to be a lead washer around the NRV assembly as well as the rubber seal and spring inside it.

    Hi Norf / everyone
The valve looks just like the ones in your picture Norf and it does contain a spring Jeff but it also looks as if its been glued!! at the bottom. This is a bit weird as i bought the lamp new.

I would be so grateful if you could send me a valve Norf of which im more than happy to pay for.

Thanks for all your help everyone
