dry evening in the garden so first light up for my T10 table lamp , and a chance for the vapalux 320 to light up the jungle before the banana plants are wrapped up for the winter..
I'm in Norfolk, about 18 miles from the north sea coast so not exactly the tropics,,,but the banana's have survived the last winter down to -14c,,,well wrapped in fleece and bubble,,, the grove is about 12 stalks five foot tall with the leaves nearly as long again,,,all 'babies' from a bigger single plant that didn't get through the winter before last,,,,but its root system did ,,,,this weekend they will get the leaves cut off and wrapped until early march.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_basjoo
Where did you get your ferns from? We've been looking in garden centers and can't find them anywhere... My wife's sister has a holiday home in North Norfolk (Mundesley), we often stay there for long weekends.
Nice one David, never seen a box of them before, our banana's are sadly the very small inedible variety, the 'real' ones wouldn't survive here, Chris, if its on your route; http://www.urbanjungle.uk.com/category.asp?catcode=18 there's an end of season sale ,they do have a mailing list, worth dropping in just for a wander round...if you are in Norwich also worth a visit on most sundays http://www.exoticgarden.com/
Thanks We have quite a lot of deep shade in our garden with mature trees and a North facing fence and some of those sound ideal...
