    I have a few steel frames and other iron parts to clean and don't like the Phosphoric Acid or Potassium Hydroxide rust removal approach and think sanding removes too much good metal along with the rust.

    I've been looking at chelation metal cleaners but don't know much about them. Here's one available locally;

    but was wondering if others are using these and which of the various brands have proven best.

    I find the best method of rust removal is using electrolysis. The process basically, requires a 12 volt current in a bath of washing soda. The positive lead needs to connect to a sacrificial piece of mild steel plate. And the negative connects to the piece you are removing the rust from. Make sure the positive lead doesn't touch the liquid, it needs to be above the water line. You can Google this process for clarification.
