Hi fellow lampies and eBay sellers. Am I doing something wrong. I decided to sell of some old stuff. I advertised it accurately, added photos etc. There were no questions and once sold I parcelled it up well and sent it off, sometimes underestimating the postage. I got immediate payment so left feedback immediately. Eventually I good positive feedback of "thanks". Not even a capital letter at the start!!! This has happened a couple of times. Is it just me?
I don't sell much so I don't get much feedback from buyers. I think there are a lot of people that really don't care, they pay their money get the goods and then have an annoying email that keeps telling them to leave feedback so they leave it as quickly as possible. Don't take it personally, just be thankful it was positive.
I've started sending a message asking the buyer to leave feedback and I will then do the same. It happened again. Feedback 'thanks' left for me. I suppose it's only fair to leave the same 'thanks' back. Cheers.
To be honest I find it slightly off putting if someone asks for feedback... I know it's annoying when you go the extra few yards to offer a good service and someone doesn't leave you feedback, but some buyers and sellers just don't. I wouldn't read to much into the one word message to be honest, as long as they leave a positive...
I rarely bother with feedback to be honest - my number is just under 1000 and 100% positive so I think that says enough about me on eBay. I've never had a negative or neutral and that's since 2002. I'm almost always a buyer so my view is that I completed my part of the deal first, therefore I should get my feedback first. I rarely respond to exhortations such as 'let us know you've received the item and you're happy with it by leaving positive feedback'. In such cases I may email the seller to that effect if I'm particularly impressed with them. I never respond to overt solicitations for feedback if I haven't got mine first. What impresses me about sellers is an article that's as described in the listing, considerate packing (particularly if I've asked for the globe to be double-boxed) and rapid delivery. On top of that, I'm particularly impressed by sellers who are capable of communicating in an adult, educated way which demonstrates they've learned something about written English in eleven years of compulsory state education. Naturally, I make due allowance for those for whom English is not their first language. No problem there - they can't help being foreign...
It's slightly annoying for us at the moment when people leave no feedback because we are trying to build it up on a new account... We're actually rather p155ed at eBay at the moment! We had two business accounts both with feedback approaching 1,000 and 100% and wanted to revert one of the business accounts back to a private account as we no longer use it for business - their response was "you can't, we suggest you open another private account".... great!! So now we have to build up feedback and reputation from scratch on a new account Frankly if there were a viable alternative then I would have told them were to poke their company years ago...
I understand what you mean David. I do all of what you expect as a buyer. then you get a one word feedback 'thanks' and you can't respond in a similar fashion. I kind of feel the deal cuts both ways. High expectations in return for a one word feedback just doesn't cut the mustard for me. Gneiss. You can buy a 1p piece as a private listing from the Bay. The seller gives you wonderful feedback. Only costs a £. Seems to be one of the things eBay has overlooked!
I tend to get more feedback from sellers than buyers as the sellers want you to respond with feedback. Always remember that a seller cannot give negative feedback to a buyer. So someone could have 2000 feedbacks with 100% positive and then start selling dishonestly. Whenever I see that a seller has 100% feedback, I always check to see how much of this feedback is as a seller. Terry
I'm just happy to get a positive,,any comment will do,i've about a dozen items that i've sold and havn't heard a thing from the buyers,,,at least if I get a response I know they've recieved it ok and i'm not sitting on the paperwork if I need to claim for an item lost... despite giving accurate delivery times ( I post twice a week ) i'm getting ebay notifications that my 'star' count is a few percentage points below what it should be,,, I've just recovered my 100% feedback after two negatives for items lost in the post,,,despite both being fully refunded by me including their postage charges which royal mail dont refund. I find that the quality of the buyers depends on what you are selling,,,,old collectable items usually generate good communications and easy to deal with people,,,start selling mobile phones or cheap cars and motorcycles and you meet more undesirables,,,,,after listing a £300 escort van and having to relist it three times after THREE buyers didn't contact me after the auction ended,and I cant even give them bad feedback...you wont get that with lampies....
Seriously? Does eBay now control feedback responses? It's a genuine question by the way - I'm not trying to be disingenuous (or 'cute' as some US member described another of my genuine questions the other day ). Anyway, to answer your original question, I agree with Matthew - I'd be happy with the positive and ignore the fact that it was one word only...
Hi David. I meant that if you leave seller feedback and then get a one worder back, it's all done and dusted. you can't really respond after that.
I was quite lucky when I sold both my wife's and my car through eBay that I managed to spot the dodgy buyers and remove their bids before the auction ended... One of the bidders I removed had zero feedback and was winning ten different cars at the same time! No idea why cars in particular appear to attract idiots but they do... and as you say mobile phones are a nightmare, I too had to list one of those several times because of time wasters. I've never sold lamps, but high end telescope buyers tended to be quite good too as do model railway people. One of my other collections is n gauge model railway engines..
