Hi all, sorry for the rather odd heading, but there is only so much space for a header What I would like to know (before changing the cosmetic aspect of my 1943 Vapalux) is, could it be the military repainted their lanterns for use in different theatres of war? My Vap is (hand)painted in "dessert" camo colour. As I know roughly where it came from, my guess is this was not done by some funny WW2- re-enactor or collector (I have seen photo's of a group of "German army WW2" soldiers using a post-war Coleman suitcase ) so bringing it back to "factory specs" might destroy its history. Any ideas anyone? Best regards, Wim
Yes, starting in 1991, most rebuilds & new military colors changed from OD green to desert tan. Because of desert storm the first.
Hi, thanks for your answer! But I am pretty sure this lantern by that time was no longer used by any army but in private hands. In fact, I think it left active duty shortly after WW2 ended (but am not sure). So, that still leaves me with the dilemma, restore to original specs, or keep it as is? Difficult to decide! Best regards, Wim
Hi Wim, I would go for the restore to original spec if it were mine, unless there is a very good provenance reason for keeping it as it is. Only you can make that decision my old matey. I can direct you to the paint spec if you wish to restore it to original. Or even bring you 1/2 a pint of my paint to Newark! Will swap for bacon sandwiches. Steve.
Ok Wim, Just spoil me Chuck in a Cumberland sausage, Black Pudding, mushrooms, tomato, beans and don't forget the hash Browns . I might then even paint it for you Seriously though, you still have to decide "paint or no paint" Steve.
