    Hi All

I was asked by Jeff if i could make a stainless carrier for the PL lamps that would take a 171 standard storm lamp globe after seeing my earlier post :D

Some folks in desperation try & squeeze a 171 into a 182 globe carrier because of the scarecity/price of 182 globes these days  ](*,) , my version fits without any fuss as the new 171 PL carrier support ring is the same size as the stormlamp one :D  .

    Here are some pic's :D ....

As you can see the glass is supported nicely & doesn't look out of place , well not too much :D

They seem to do the job quite well i'm happy to say [-o< :D

    Best regards , Stu :D  .

Looks brill. It fills out the cage much better and although not original, oit looks the part.

If we add up all the part you make Stu it can't be far off a whole lamp!

Damm you, is there anything you can't make in excellent shape ?

But why does the metal sticks out so much for the bottom part ?
So from the middle ring to the bottom ring.

    Hi Wim

I do try Wim , I do try :D

This was the prototype one & will have another ring silver soldered in place at the widest point to protect the bottom edge of the globe :D

Cracking job Stu,  I want one as I am collecting anything that is inovative and different :D . In about 200 years time my collection will baffle the known lamp collector's world :-$ and will be worth at least 2/6d  . That price will confuse lots of folk. One little question; why the sticky-out elbows on the design? Could it be made without that feature? Truly though, a fine piece of fettling and I do want one when you go into main production phase.   Steve.

    Hi Steve

The sticky out bits are from the jig for the standard PL 182 globe carrier , the 171 carrier is the same frame just with a larger bottom ring that sits on the globe ledge & a repositioned guard ring to protect the globe :D

    Hope this helps :D

    Stu :D

That's looking great! What a good idea to fit an additional protecting ring!

    Hi Stephan

The ring is not really an extra one , if you look at the PL53 182 globe carrier that has the second ring as standard i just didn't think the 171 version would need it , but after fitting the glass i realised it did for the added protection & strength plus it looks better too :D
