Found a Tilley WL yesterday in the wilds of Canada and wanted to get a bit of information about it. Somewhere I read that Tilley had a sales office in Toronto in mid-century of last. The fount is stamped R9681681 on the brass rim upset between the legs, no other markings except Tilley Lamp Co Hendon on the pump grip. Fount has male pump threads, legs are attached directly to fount rim with square nuts, lamp finish is lacquered brass. Thanks for your help.
Lamp was missing burner, globe and fuel control knob, so photo shows a porkpie generator and knob that I tried on for size.
That's a great find! The links below show my examples of it and give some information, Jeff. http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/3371 http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/3020
Thanks for the links Jeff, I see I have several burner vent and globe options to get this back to working condition. As this isn't a fettled Bay purchase I'm thinking the pump is original to the fount. Any idea of what years the straight lined pump grip edge, rather than cross hatched would have been produced ?
In my opinion that lamp dates from 1927 to the early 1930's, so the pump may be the original. Could you add a clear photo of the bottom end of the pump barrel, Jeff.
Ha, don't think Mrs Flgyt has hung anything on a clothes line for a couple of decades. She gets those for keeping opened bags of crisps and cookies closed, fairly handy around the shed as a third set of fingers also.
Nice wall lamp with teardrop style feet unlike later models, could be anywhere from late 20s to early 30s but if it is the original pump which it could well be that style pump was around in 1933 with a baynet style NRV this one has a later NRV so maybe bit later 34\35 is my best guess. Not sure when the teardrop feet stopped being used on these they are shown in the 38 catalogue but could be old artwork i have often thought i bet they finished earlier when they brought out the KL80 new style frames as the nuts on them is the same as the new style feet used on the wall lamps, All best guesswork here and personal opinions after me and mick bounce ideas off each other nice lamp cheers pete
Mid 1930s sounds about right to me as well. It could maybe do with an earlier cock and wants the gallery with internal springs but it will polish up very well. I like these lacquered lamps because the original finish is polished brass so they are easy to shine up to get to the original look. That is a real nice find. ::Neil::
Thanks for confirmation of date Neil. This is the third Tilley I've seen in Canada in about 15 years of looking at many hundreds of Coleman and less often AGM appliances.
