Not certain origin, but it looks very much like a Hasag Lipsia, even in small details. That disproportionate, ugly glass is ofcourse hardly the correct one, but since it came with it, I'll keep it until I know what to use. The text is as seen in cyrillic, and would perhaps say 'Promet' (Prometheus? Suitable name for a lamp...) since the last letter is 'dead'. It also says No.2 after 'Promet', but strangely enough that's in our western, latin alphabet. The on- and off manoeuvre says 'Z' and 'A', which means a German speaking country to me! I asked at the Guild some years ago, but no one there knew, but Conny pointed out the similarity with the Hasag Lipsia to me, and I must say he raises a good point; it is most likeley that this has some connection to Hasag. Perhaps even made by them for the Russian market. Link to my old question at the Lamp Guild. You will also see Conny's Lipsia there. It uses a clever mechanism with a plunger that gives a portion of alcohol to the preheating cup at the same time as the on/off valve is manouvered.
Hi Christer, This is one of the best looking lamps I know of...... and what a nice shining condition it has. I believe it’s a Russian version of the Hasag Lipsia lamp (Hasag was a big exporter of lamps to Russia and later the Soviet Union). This lamp is however probably a later version of the Lipsia 1910 lamp that I have, as there are features on your lamp that sure are developments from the early Lipsia lamp. I agree with you that the shade is ( “hemsk”) awful. A shorter conical shade would be more appropriate. This image comes from Jürgen Bredenstein - hytta.de /Conny
Yes Conny, it really looks good. And it's soo tiny! I will keep my eyes peeled for a suitable glass. Jürgen doesn't have any that fit as far as I can tell, but sooner or later one will pop up somewhere.
It's a neat little lamp, but personally I think it's a tad bit too overworked with all those "squiggles" everywhere.
Hi Christer. wonderful hanging lamp. nice score how about it workig operation? i want see nice light your lamp. fuel is alcohol ? thanks sharing us. Gunsoo
Yes Gunsoo, it's an alcohol lamp. I'll see if I can light it one of these days. I have had it running a while ago, and it worked as it should.
