I'm looking at having a go at a small project. I won't say what at the moment, but I need some help to get it off the ground. I need to know what the thread is that is used for handle attachment on the R1, TL14 and also the three cage fixings on the top of the Bialaddin 300x tank. These are all the same thread as I have tried them but I thought someone might know what one of them was. Thanks and I look forward to revealing more.
Hi Matthew, I believe that they are what is known as BSB British Standard Brass threads. and 26 TPI. It is a Whitworth thread form. I went all through this when I made up my "Bialaddimus" frankenstove which is shown on CCS, with details of the thread. Steve.
I just measured a bolt from a Bialaddin. Outer Dia was 0.18" and tpi 30. (6 threads in 0.2") Can't be BSB because the outer dia is wrong, 1/8" BSB would be 0.125". 2BA is 0.185" dia and 31.4tpi which seems the most likely and the nearest other possible is 7/32 BSF but that is 0.173" at 28 tpi and I doubt my measurements are that far out. So looks like 2BA. ::Neil::
32 TPI looks a bit closer to me ( I do wear glasses now though ) 3/16 BSF is 0.187" @ 32 TPI which is pretty good I think 7/32 @ 0.173" is the root diameter rather than the OD Neil Looks like you have a choice Matt
That sounds better. I always did reckon on a BSW or BSF and whilst Tilley used BA a lot I don't think W&B did much. Besides I was a civil engineer and to the nearest 6 inches was good enough. All these thousandths can be confusing. ::Neil::

Aaaarrrrrrgggg, there is a reason i'm not an engineer. All this technical stuff just blows my mind. Give me a big enough hammer and i'll get the the square through the round hole. I'll look and see if I can find a 3/16 BSF tap and die at work so I can try it. Thanks for the help chaps, i'll report back soon.
Matt, The bialaddin is 2BA...hoot flip and flandyflop sells them. I suspect they came from W&B in a roundabout way....
Thanks Ian, I probably should have said in my first post that I was asking because I needed a tap and die rather than a bolt. This project is going to exceed what little skills I have so please all prepare yourselves for a good laugh.

Oh no, I can feel the pressure rising. It's only going to be fairly thin (1mm) aluminium so hopefully it's not going to be too difficult, he says. I suppose I'd better check ebay to see if I can actually get some before I get too involved. Stay tuned. 8)
Ok I can get 1mm or 1.5mm 500mm x 500mm sheet and 6mm brass round bar. Just need to make a few more measurements and then put my order in.
Mmmmm well, if its Ali and you mention spinning, then it's got to be a reflector of some kind ! The 6mm brass round bar could be the 2BA supports for the Bialaddin tank, so maybe, a Bialaddin version of an SDR ?

I have no choice but to see this project though till the end now. I just hope it isn't too much of an anti-climax.
