http://www.vintagefestivaloflight.org.uk/index.htm I've been a couple of times with a display of stoves & am going to be there next weekend all being well. Other show veterans are Mick & Pete Anyone else?
Don't worry, Ian, probably p*ss*d it down again - seems to every year! Maybe I'll get to it in 2011 (sigh...)
Come on guys, get to sunny Ashover 30th september 1st 2nd October. Bring stoves lamps any thing that lights up, the law of averages must be on our side for good weather this year !!!!
Hi Stan you maybe right about the weather not been too good last few years tho mick has been on about attending again reckon he will talk me into it again!! cheers pete
OK, I've got the tin tent booked in for the weekend and planning to arrive on Friday afternoon. Who else..?
who's coming to Ashover? we have a good weather forcast so no wellies and raincoats needed just bring lamps stoves tents caravans etc.Hope to see you there.
Hi there well after the last few years at ashover the weather finally came thro and well everyone enjoyed it so much more. Was nice to see quite a few lamp collectors there and also the number of people who just had one or two lamps sat out in the evening with their lamps shining. Here are some pictures i took many will know the faces in them so i wont name them and a few of the lamps i spotted. as you can see was well worth the effort this year cheers Pete
Great set of photos, looks like a good show. I have a photo of the red painted Tilley hybrid in photo 8 ablaze at the 1000 engine rally last year, very bright lamp and something a bit different. There are usually a few lamps on the go at Astle if the weather stays dry, in amongst the lighting plants, hopefully there will be more lamps appearing in years to come. Cheers David
The Tilley hybrid was made by a very talented friend of mine. He bought an AGM petrol lantern only to find that the tank was riddled with stress cracks and completely unrepairable. He just happened to have the base of a Tilley table lamp sitting on the shelf, and so the hybrid lantern was born! It was a tricky job, needing a fair bit of machining work , but the end result was worth the effort. His latest job was to make a new single tube FL5 burner from scratch. Like I said, a very talented chap!
Hi Pete , nice pictures looks like you lot had a great time and without the rain it that a TL AL 21 spotlamp i see on the left hand side of the picture??? thanks for shareing kenny..
Yes i liked the AGM TL cross lamp looks very stylish The one on bottom left is a tilley cross type lamp of micks made up from a tilley gas lamp and a track lamp this works well too maybe you can see it better in this picture cheers pete
Ah, now, I spoke to that gentleman at Ashover on the Friday night, but didn't manage to get back to him the next day. Maybe I spoke to you too, without realising who you were...
Yes i thought it was something like that,, is th reflector in that FL5 copper? or is t alight? i also like the blanchard in the middle where is your other one? kenny..
IIRC, it did have a copper reflector, Kenny, and wasn't alight at the time. It looks like it's reflecting something known as the Sun - that's a kind of big yellow ball in the sky, not seen over Ashover for many a year, apparently... I think the FL5 may have been lit subsequently, though...
The other ones here but its all polished and shiny dont want to dirty it by running it now do I cheers pete
Thanks jeff, yes now they look good in the hall and i reckon its where i will be keeping them for a while at least cheers pete
Yes very nice Pete i reckon in the hall is a good spot for one a least..nice wall lamp aswell good to see them in such a good shape I have a 1300 model like yours but the tank is more a teardrop shape and the pressure gauge is below the badge where yours is above it, is there a model number on the badge? kenny...
Hi David i didnt realise it was your lamp does it make any differance when it is polished copper ie c/p?or was it just something differant? cheers kenny..
Dunno, Kenny - it's not my lamp (it's Mick's, I think). If I've got the right lamp, it had been electrocuted by a previous owner and Mick had to let in a strip of copper into the reflector below the vapouriser to replace some metal that had been cut out. My FL5 has the ordinary chrome-plated reflector...
No kenny there is no model number on the badges of these ones both have the dated burners tho june and november 1917 so first world war time lamps. pete
