    Hi Tony

Here are some pic's of the Bialaddin style pre heaters for your Tilley's that are winging there way to you in Tasmania :D

The wicks are triple wound to give a better performance when pre heating your vapourisers :D

Nice. Are they soft-soldered or silver soldered? Where did you get the "dish" part - are they pipe caps?

Excellent! They look fantastic. I am using one or more of the Tilleys (and the Kayen) most nights of the week at the moment. The comfortable summer evenings make sitting on the verandah with a Tilley burning to provide light (and with the occasional beer) a most enjoyable experience.

    Hi

They are soft soldered together as the meths will not get hot enough to melt the lead :D

I love the sets that I have here in the U.S. A very long-time needed improvement over the clips!

The 6 pre-heaters arrived today: here are pics of one of each type doing its thing. The 'short' with the X246 Guardsman, and the 'long' with a Kayen AP2.

    Great work, Stu!

Hey Stu, nice custom heaters yo made there 8) have you ever thought about using Carbon Felt in your pre-heat burners? It's amazing stuff although it does the same thing as the glass fibre. The wicking ability of the felt is excellent!

Received mine from Al this week.

    Excellent craftsmanship

I tried the heater version in my R55 and it works great. With a nice large flame and a three minute burn time, there was no need for a draught tube.

I thought I should update this thread with a pic to show that Stu's pre-heaters also work very well as insect shields. If you leave just enough gap between the globe and the rim of the cup to get the metho in, it will also stop the insects from getting in and damaging the mantle before self-immolating.

Note the two orange moths (among many other insects of all sizes) that were unable to break the mantle despite hours of effort!
