This is a pretty normal and very common model L327 300 cp twin mantle gasoline lantern. There are no markings on it so made between about 1921 and 1924. What makes it different and interesting is the globe cage support collar has been manufactured inside out. Not easy to see in the images of the collar but if you look carefully you will see it is not upside down but inverted horizontally so reads as a mirror image. Not my lantern now because I traded it with Bart a couple of years ago. I did make sure I had these images before it went though. ::Neil::
Ha - I was just about to point out that Bart had one just like that - obviously the same lantern! I recall that I fixed it for him - virtually, anyway - using Irfanview...
Yes it was just one of those curiosities I had and Bart wanted a Coleman Quick-Lite so I let him have it. Very dirty in my images but under that a reasonable condition lantern that would very possibly restore well and function. They nearly always do restore. Great pieces of engineering. ::Neil::
So it is just a manufacturing error, is it? Or have you seen this on more of these lanterns? It would otherwise have been an understandable thing to do deliberatedly if the light actually had passed through the collar, which it not really does. The projected text from the light would of course have been correct in that case.
I presume this one just got curved inside-out - probably the pierced metal strip got turned over on the way to the machine...
Hi My name is Chris I am new to the forum and fairly new to latern collecting. I have a Lq327 with the writing on the collar going backwards as well. It looks identical to the one in the pics. I have found that mistakes like this are not all that common, but not unheard of.
The Colemanplant 1923. Hey Joe, did you see her on the bicycle? Her skirts ended just below her knees - man! Yes Jack, now it is not possible to have your 10 o'clock beers without getting distracted by those daring womens! 8)
Here are some photos to Candrus' lantern with the same type of Collar... Strange 327 collar? looks backwards? I hosted the photos for him on hte CCF.
