I have a 228c that has a date stamp 6 on right 8 on left. most of these were marked with a letter for the month. it has the old style screw on pump and says the coleman company inc. Anyway trying to date it. Any ideas?
Hello, The Coleman habit of putting the year on the left and month on the right is sometimes a pain to figure out, this one is somewhat easier. The 228C was produced between 1944 and 1946 according to the date chart that I have here, unless some new information has surfaced that puts your lantern, actually the base plate; being produced August of 1946.
that is what i'm saying.the one on the left is the 8 so wouldn't that make it a 48? this was a barn find and as far as i can tell it had never been apart. thanks in advance for any help.
I don't think so because as far as I am aware Coleman were making 220D by 1948. Generally dates are year first but there are exceptions and really the whole game is complicated and sometimes as with this lamp you have to look at production dates as well as the stamps to make sense of what you have. ::Neil::
