Can someone tell me how many lamps the white reflector with 4 slots was meant to be used on - just PL53 or more?

Hi Jean, I am not sure, but it would seem logical that they would fit most Tilley storm lanterns; 246 series , PL53, and AL15 and AL620 etc. I am certainly looking for one to complete a Hospital Lamp kit, so if yours is spare to requirements please let me know. Steve.

Some of those 4 slot Tilley top reflectors were brown enamelled on the top side and white enamelled on the bottom side.

As far as I know, the all white ones were for the hospital lamps.

The top reflector for the Guardsman lantern only has 2 slots as does the EX., top reflector. Jeff.

Thanks to all for your input. The shade I have is all white. Forgot I had it and came across it today when I was looking for something else - typical!

Another query about a different reflector - is there any way of removing or reducing stains on a white reflector caused by smoke?

That four slot white refletor was for the Hospital lamp. The reflector for all other PL53 type hoods was enamelled in white and brown. ::Neil::

What about the one that came with my PL53 pictured below? The one with my hospital lamp is painted but this one with my PL is white enamel top and bottom.

Hmm shows you I don't know everything. I have not seen an all white enamelled one before. The Hospital lamp type was painted white and I know the KL80 came either painted or enamelled in all white. Hard call this one because those refectors were generally sold as extras for the lanterns so it is not easy to say what colour combination might be for any one period or lamp. ::Neil::

Yet another example of Tilley doing something to confuse generations down the line.   Also glad to be able to show you something new Neil. :D

It's possible that Tilley offered a choice of finishes for the top reflectors, but I do not recall seeing any paperwork which stated that, Jeff.

The one I have definitely matches Matts one. Any other suggestions about cleaning up my KL80 shade? Don't have T-cut but tried oven cleaner with no luck.

    Hi Jean
Try wire wool to clean enamel.

Jif (sorry I mean cif) yes I do remember it before.
    Ajax powder
    Autosol

If it's enamel then I would imagine it can only be surface staining can't it? If it is, then anything slightly abrasive should move it. Enamel is very hard and takes a fair amount of scratching I stripped the red over paint from my Aida with a wire brush on a bench grinder, after a quick polish with Autosol it was perfect. Still be careful though as I wouldn't like to be responsible for sending your enamel dull and.... Well, none reflective.

As I understand it, vitreous enamel is, effectively, glass. Therefore as a gentle first resort, I wonder if Windolene or some other proprietory window cleaner might be effective. If it isn't, you can then move onto something slightly more aggressive and so on.

I think steel wool and wire brushes on a bench grinder would be what I tried if all else failed, that is to say, last...

Your right David, bench grinder wire brush is a last resort but you will see, the lamps were in a pretty rough state when I got to them so I didn't have much to lose.

I was meaning Jean's reflector, Matthew - as you said, there'd be no point spoiling it by being too rough at first...
