getting ready to sand blast a few of my tilley globe cages, In doing so i was not getting know where as the dust was clouding my vision and i realised it was time to make some fine adjustmens to the cabinet. PLAN A:- was to get better lighting PLAN B:- was to make a grill to block large partical sized debris from entering into the aluminium oxide Medium. PLAN C:- was to remove all the unwanted dust to improve my vision in the cabinet. hence i had to construc a filter system which im loaning this idea from the good chaps from accros the great pond' the idea saves your normal vac from blowing up as the fine dust gets into the motor and causes it to short out (I know this as i learnt the hard way) it incorporates a bucket with water which filters out the fine dust and saves your hoover from blowing out. here we have a couple of photos showing you the system in use now PLAN A ( better lighting installed ) PLAN B ( grill made to filter out large particles size debris ) PLAN C ( here we have 2 photos the filter system which i will adapt to my own sand blasting cabinet )
Excellent work looking forward to seeing some light diffusing globes 8) , some half blasted globes with a clear one inch bottom would look great 8) Stu
If I knew the art of sandblast etching on glass ie globes I would point my hands in that direction ' that sounds interesting we will have to see a few video's on this topic first Might look cool on a few classic lamps 8) .
A good masking tape will allow you to do just that , the masked off area would remain clear while the rest would have the desired diffusing effect your looking for 8) a fine multi stripe using proffesional paint masking would look very smart Stu .
Yes quite ' and if that's still applies to globes! Then I'm in my element as I'm a panel beater and car sprayer' so yes I would need fine line making tape and maybe a way to fade out the frozen etched look , rather than to have a sharp edge. may practice on a few glass bottles then old glasses.
Hi Do you have any more details of the bucket filter? I'm needing one for my blaster. I found this site which is about cyclonic filters but I wasn't sure if it would work for dust. http://www.jpthien.com/cy.htm Any ideas welcomed Mart
The problem (as I see it) with that type of filtration is that the hoses are too small in diameter, when you operate the gun inside the box it will overpressure and "puff out at you"(I have a cabinet just like the OP so am speaking from personal experience) to solve my dust problem I lead a 4"flexible duct out of my garage window (connected to the box by a flange)any heavy dust drops out and the rest is safely led away, less pressure drop is good. To get rid of the dust just use the air blowing in to push all of the light dust out of the box, I find for fine work a fine shot works best (copper slag is what I use)
just updating my post with couple new pictures. Made new brackets and fitted lights also added new seal to the inspection port to minimize dust escaping. also fitted a filter system will keep you posted
