Hello - I just got this Hasag lamp, not the prettiest one, and it mises af few things, fuelcap, pumpnub and glass, but it´s a HASAG. The question is which model, the nametag says HASAG 2??, the tag is very worn. Can anyone help. Regards Niels Chr. cc
Can't be 252 because the hood is the wrong shape for that model. 252 has a hood like a Petromax. This is earlier and will be 52 or 72. The only differences are 52 is 300cp and 72 is 500cp. ::Neil::
Hi Niels Chr. PiTu is right i think. But yours is different from mine. Notice it has go a screw in the fount prepared for pressuregauge. My pumpknob is flat with a tap-lock. This is how my fuel-cap looks. Interior looks like your, Note the square vapourizer. Globe from any Petromax 828, 826, 829 fits. Gratulation with your lamp and may the sparepart-spirit be with you. Claus C
I looks like someone took a pump-lit from another lamp and put it on the pump-tube. Your pumptube-coil looks like mine with a shorter coil - not for that big one that is mounted on your lamp now. Claus C
Hello - thanks for all the replies, now I know a little bit more about Hasag lamps Nics lamp Claus, except for the name "Hasag" engraved in your tank (mine has a transfer in blue/yellow), your lamp is almost identical to mine. I found this picture on the net. Very close to both mine and your lamp. It says Hasag No 252 on the nametag. Regards Niels Chr.
Neil, petromax style hoods are on post war 252's, this one is genuine hasag. You have rightly supposed that this could be also 500cp model 272, but I have never seen it, so it must be very rare. The differences between hasag 52 and 252 are in the top vent. In 52 model hood and inner burner parts are is one piece, in 252 there are two main parts (hood and burner casing) like in petromax. Hello - by the way, there is no name indgraved in the top on my lamp, just as it is with the tank, but appart from that the top is identical with the top on Claus.s 252. I got this idea, to remove the nametag which is verý worn/corroded, and see if the name/number is visible on the other side.If the name/bunder is pressed or stamped into the metal, it should be possible, I think. Regards Niels Chr.
Well, I wouldnt do that. My 252 has also got a nametag (not as visible as one would like) and it is place on the other side of the Hasag-stamp. The Hasag-stamp is so deep you should be able to feel the fram through the nametag if is there. I dont think Hasag would make a nice stamp and then cover it with a label - nahhh. Claus C
Is it possible to date Hasag's in any way?, I have a feeling that Niels Chr.'s lamp is a old lady since the pressuregauge-hole is missing. Or maybe a 272 Claus C
Claus, I think you can date approximately most of Hasag lanterns. This lantern is a genuine Hasag, not a DDR product marked with hasag logo. Model 252 is not mentioned in 1938 Hasag catalogue, so it must be later. On the other side, circa 1943 Germans ceased to use brass in most of their lantern parts. So my guess would be 1939-1943, but someone may have a different dating. Pressure gauge hole is absent in most of the 252's I have seen, so I'd say there's no general rule for it. It's rather not a 272, because 500cp Hasags had a special asbestos plate, to prevent tank from extensive heating. Piotr
Piotr Clever you So Niels Chr.'s is a lamp before the wall and my lamp with Hasag-mark must be from DDR-period then When did they stop producing them in the DDR? Is it possible stick a date to mine regards Claus C
I´m impressed by the amount of information you can have on this site, within 24 hours my new lamp has been dated and categorized My teori with the nametag was that it may be possible to recognize the name/number on the backside of the nametag itself, just an idea. Any way, my plan is to remowe the tag and either find anonther one, or reproduce a new one. Regards Niels Chr.
Hi Niels Chr. I like your lamp more and more. Sorry I misunderstood the tag-idea, but I understand now. Maybe Podlys information can help: You are free to swap the iron with a Tilley pressureIron Claus C
Claus, your Hasag was made in the same period. The later ones look slightly different, top vent is similar to petromax shape, pump knob is plastic and control knob also looks different. We don't have this exact model in our forum gallery, but upper part of this lantern is typical for DDR hasags: Piotr
Well, so much for that idea of mine, could not wait so I have just removed the nametag, which was easy, but the tag was just as corroded on the other side as on the upperside, so no eureka moment Niels Chr.
I found this on the www where they only discuss Hasag. Nice story about the Gasah-lamp and the akward battle between east and west that was only too real at that time http://vergaserlampenforum.de/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=387 Claus C
