I recently got the Vapalux and I have no clue, what model is it?
No numbers on the fount, turning knob, fuel cap, pump and so on.
Tilley (sold by the same man) was from ca. 1972, so maybe '70s are the years of production...

320, OK, but a different model, than on linked post -- different hood, chrome-plated fount. Has my guess, that it's from '70s, some justification?

According to Ian Ashton (Vapalux and Bialladin Pressure Lamps, page 48) yours is an early 1970's example. They came with the 2 types of hood.

    Best regards,

    Hi Mark
Your guess and Wim is probably right if you search to this on the gallery:

I know in the carbuisness they continue to use the old parts on new models until the pile of old stuff is gone. Maybe they also had that policy when your niceish lamp was made O:)
    Did you party?

It was not on my party... ;)
More seriously -- as far I know, former owner sold summer house and probably throw all items in one big box for moving... So the Tilley he had for sale, had hair-like crack on the globe (but when I e-mailed him, asking questions about Tilley, he gave really enormous price for said lamp :? ).

I've succeed to unscrew the vapourizer (pliers with piece of cloth).
There was some carbon build-up on the rod.
How long the cleaning needle should be? Mine is ca. 1,0 mm long, so I can feel it with fingertip, that it appears or is hiding, but it's not as long, as in Petromax.

Hi Mk 2, when in its "up" position you can feel the needle that's perfect, it does not protrude any further out of the nipple.

    Best regards,

    Wim

Hi Wim, you made my day!
Idea of buying new vapourizer and sinking another 20 quids due to burned/broken jet cleaning needle was making me sad... ;)

BTW, is vapourizer just-a-pipe, or has something inside (glass fibre, other stuff)? I try to calculate possible damages, if I'll pour engine cleaning agent into the tube... :!:

Basically, it is just a tube. At the top there's a spring (acts as a "guide" for the cleaning needle) but there is no asbestos or glass fibre or whatever. An often used trick to get carbon deposits out is to heat till dark cherry red and then plunge into water. After a few cycles the vapouriser should be clean again. But don't overdo things, we don't want to damage the vap!

    Best regards,

    Wim

    Hi Mark 2

Nice lamp. The glass is available from Basecamp part no. V805A:

    http://www.base-camp.co.uk/Vapalux.html

Not the original glass but it will fit and keep the mantle safe. It would be worth emailing Mike at Basecamp to see how much it would cost to get it to Poland perhaps with a couple of sets of washers and mantles too.

    Nice find! Enjoy your lamp!

    Regards, Jeremy

Globe (with steel baseplate) is a thing I definitely need. About washers -- I was thinking of buying silicone rubber baking form in supermarket and cutting/stamping some (silicone rubber is fuel- and heat-resistant). About mantles -- original ones probably are better, but I have seen on some Polish camping accessories webpage mantles with two holes (for gas lanterns): mantles for gaslamps
Maybe buying everything in one batch at Basecamp will be less expensive. I have to made some calculations...

    Hi Mark 2

I dont know how well silicone would work. Generally most washers are made out of nitrile unless you get the better ones Ross makes which are viton.

Are you sure? Given it's date of manufacture, I'd have thought the 805 glass as currently fitted to your lantern is correct. Maybe I'm wrong but I think the cylinder glass with steel base was much later and found on the military NATO lanterns...

OK, great, but mine has a hole in it. Not round hole for ignition, as in WW 2nd models, but made by previous owner.

My lamp is from the '70s, I think, and the cylindrical glass with steel baseplate is not that bad (and cheaper ;) ). I have to compare dimensions of the new globe with those of smaller Petromax -- Petromax is good supplied here, in contrary to British lamps.
