    Hi Pete,

I get the same kind of thing from people I am friends with on Facebook. It's probably a bot of some sort.

It sounds like someone's email account, or the CPL site, has been 'phished' and email addresses used by a third party to send spam. It might be worthwhile asking the site service provider to run a check to see whether there is anything untoward residing on the site.

Hello Tony, that's a good idea and perhaps Christer will check it out, Jeff.

    I think it's a question for Ross.
I have alerted him about this thread.

I'm confident it's not the site. It's a pretty common occurrence for someone’s email client to be hijacked & emails sent to folk in their address book. Sometimes it just 'looks' like it's from the friends email. I've had emails from my own domain from accounts that don't even exist.

Funnily enough I had one from a valid address of my own today. While it looked like it came from myself I examined the source code of the message & it actually came from an address at cochamber.com - the Colorado chamber of commerce. Looks like they have had their email hijacked. The content of the email was a spoof recruitment offer I have seen many times from spammers. I would guess the spammers use one of the addresses from a hijacked address book to mask the address they are actually sending from.

Where are all the guns when you need one, find the spammers and use them for target practice.

Even that can be faked, it just depends on how sophisticated the operation is...

Having said that if they don't publish SPF http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework records then they are partly to blame.

What really hacks me of is if they weren't making money from it them spam would be virtually wiped out overnight - so maybe the muppets who still respond to their messages should be shot too!
