I found this at the Tip Shop and it looked lonely.... Can anyone date it? It has the etched German made globe and a 'blue with white speckles' hood. I'll post a better photo(s) in the gallery when I clean it up.
Hi Tony. Its a late 60s one or later has the flat vent and the pointer red control. The original globe has Austramax on it yours is a replacement .the vents come in a variaty of colours to .Its hard to date the early ones as there is no records etc .After your model came a change with the air release screw being plastic also . The early ones also had a ships wheel control valve shape hope this helps .Also the vent was more rounded on top .
Thanks. The globe has AustramaX etched on one side and "Jenaer Suprax Glas" and "Schott Mainz" on the opposite side. See Nils' comments here on another Austramax: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/39 The hood has 4 holes as Tonebone says in his post here: http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4007
It looks nearly identical to the blue and white speckled hood in the Austramax reference area. Because of the angle of the lantern I can't make out the handle shape.
As far as I know, no-one has any evidence of when the different variations of parts were introduced. This makes it very difficult to date the lamps and the best we can do is make an educated guess. My guess for this one would be the 60s.
As Nils has mentioned pretty hard to date. About the only real evidence is Before '53 and after 53. Before '53 had the gauze in the mantle holder after had the Stainless Steel insert with larger holes. All 2/300 should have gauze but there is a grey area of 3/300 with either. So that roughly makes the 3/300 sometime pre '53 The cosmetic changes in the 3/300 can be " loosely " grouped in decades. There was a flyer that was inserted in the box with the instructions giving a date for the start of the Stainless Steel base but I have lost it. Colin
