This is the result of an idea of Ian Ashton. He saw the Vapalux and Bialaddin hood caps that I have had made and he came up with the idea of a similar production of Tilley heat deflectors-cum-hood caps. These I believe would be replacements for the IL47 as heat deflectors, and the early X246 and SDR as hood caps. What do you think? Made in 20g brass, they are an exact copy of the original loaned to me by Ian, they would only need drilling and a hanger made up if used for a deflector. Feedback would be appreciated. Steve.

Update! Had some made and they are almost exactly like the original. Further, I am talking to Stu about getting some "Hangers" made for the item when used as a heat deflector. Will keep you posted. Meanwhile, the caps/deflectors are available for sale; see the "Member's Services". Steve.

First production batch have all but gone. I have just ordered another production run and this time the caps will be pre-drilled. The hanger production is also imminent, Stu informs me, so soon I may be able to offer a complete Heat deflector with hanger, or if you need it a Tilley hood-cap. I will let you know when the new batch are ready. Steve.

    Hi All

Steve/Shedman asked me if i'd make up some brass hangers for the KL type heat deflectors that he's having made :D  & being an affable chap  i agreed to make some for him :D

The brass rod was cut to size & a thread machined on one end , next job was to make the hooked end :D  so i got out the trusty old stove leg jig :D ( CCS members have seen this a few times :!: ) i made some new formers to make up the hangers , & here the annealed brass rod is formed around to make the hooked end :D

A quick polish on the buffer :D

The polished hanger fitted with a deflector on my KL80 :D

The hangers wil be available from Shedman as i'm sending him them to make available with the caps/deflectors as a set to your good selves 8)

Best regards , Stu :D

Well done Stu    . As ever a great job mate:thumbup:  I look forward to getting the first consignment of your hangers and I will probably have the next batch of deflectors/caps late next week, so then can offer a complete KL/IL deflector assembly. You Sir! are an invaluable asset to the lamp and stove collecting fraternity. Many thanks - Steve.

Hi David, I will be updating the "Member's Services" Ad as soon as I have worked out the selling price for the complete deflector/hanger assembly. I cannot do this until I get the new batch from the Spinner [-o< but I estimate that the complete deflector will be about £15 + P&P. It is so satisfying to be able to provide an item that is so often missing :D/ . If you want me to reserve one for you please PT me with details. All the best  - Steve.

Give you that one Steve, I've previously made and sold 24 of these particular tops/deflectors having made them all with my own fair hands and can certainly share that sentiment. It's warming to know there's lamps out there with my parts on them, and although your on a run of your own (and very well done) , I think I'll still keep my guardsman mandrel's and jigs (along with my Bialaddin top mandrel's I never publicised on the forum) for a rainy day.

Good luck to ya and keep up the good work

    Cheers

I'm sure I'll be blowing the dust off my mandrel's in a year or two anyways ;) the problem may be, now I have an industrial unit, is I've got more space in which to lose them :-s

    Cheers

OK this is very cool and I have my order in for the one I need. Trick the next is spun steel reflectors. As Tilley used the same shape and style of 12" reflector for just about everything from the KL80 and PL types as well as the later guardsman and IL33/47s a simple blank with hole for KL80 can be adapted by the buyers to fit a variety of lamps.I have need for one at least and I am sure there will be others out there. ::Neil::

Hi Neil, Take one to Newark so that I can see what you are after. If I can borrow one I will talk to the Spinner and see what can be done. Steel reflectors spun will not be a problem, but if they were enamelled, that is a different kettle of fish! Everything is possible  . A picture would give me something to start with. Your deflector and hanger are reserved  Best regards - Steve.

    Neil,

I spoke to the spinner today and spinning up a blank for a tilley reflector will not be a problem. I am assuming that we are talking about a blank that people can cut their own slots into, to suit their own requirements. I can get the blanks made in steel, aluminium, or stainless steel (SS is a little more difficult) Any blanks would be bare metal and no finish. What do you think? If you think it is worth following up I will start a new thread to test the water. Best regards - Steve

Hi Paul, I Do not know until I get one to size up and let the Spinner copy, but basically it will be a blank copy of whatever is provided as the template. I think that Tilley reflectors were all very much the same basic size, but fitting slots varied. That is why I am looking at a basic blank for individuals to work on themselves from there. Steve.
