    Hi All

After my recent post on the CQ table lamp.....

    http://0flo.com/index.php?threads/4885

I said i'd have a go at making a globe support for it [-o< , so after scrounging some sheet steel at my local metal merchants they cut it up for me into the correct size 8) & i have formed one up ready to spot weld together :D

I have some old clock spring steel to fabricate the three sprung support clips which will also be spot welded on :D

    Here's where i am so far :D  ....

    The workbench tonight :D

    Hi All

I have been working on the Coleman globe carrier for my CQ :D  also in the hope of finding a globe to fit on to it as well [-o< & have completed the first trial one :D

The steel ring was clamped & silver soldered together :D & the central support was bent to shape incorparating the slight raised center to fit onto an original burner head :D

    1363906190-DSCF3937_opt.jpg

    1363906232-DSCF3943_opt.jpg

The cross piece was spot welded into place :D

    1363906302-DSCF3944_opt.jpg

Next job was to cut the old clock spring steel for the sprung globe holders , these were then layed out on the hearth & tempered by heating to dull red with a propane torch , this makes the steel less prone to fracture when bent into the correct shape :D

    Tempering with the torch

    1363906372-DSCF3941_opt.jpg

Note the change in colour , nice & even [-o<

    1363906427-DSCF3942_opt.jpg

The top of each spring was ground to give a nice rounded tip like the originals then bent into shape after marking the fold lines from a master

    1363906469-DSCF3947_opt.jpg

    1363906502-DSCF3948_opt.jpg

On the first three i ground a notch out which is where they were spot welded on to the steel ring :D

    1363906541-DSCF3945_opt.jpg

Then the springs are welded on :D

    1363906602-DSCF3949_opt.jpg

& here's the finished support trial fitted just needs a bit of a tidy & i'm there :D

    1363906714-DSCF3953_opt.jpg

I have found some cheap glass shades in the States which are on there way to me , they're not original but will give me something to play with until some better ones turn up :D  that is unless someone knows of some originals kicking about 8)

    Best to all , Stu :D .

PS Mart i'm still looking for some like you

Hello one and all, the link below is for a website which sells ribbed shades, the white opal shades are just under £20 + postage and they are fine for CQs., etc..

It's shade number D-6 that you want for that type of lamp, unless you want any of the coloured ribbed shades which are shown on the same page, but they are more expensive.

Perhaps this company should be added to the links page, Jeff.

    Thanks Jeff and Stu

    This forum is great.

    Stu
what is the outside diameter of the coleman shade support?
Think I can guestimate the other dimensions if you would share that one....
    Cheers
    Mart.
