Hello. I bought a lot of the anchor 500cp mantle from ebay. I tried in the Pmax 829 lamp, it working very well in the past. When i try the new mantles, i see some problems - the mantle didn't burn out well - the flame to be outside this mantle - blow up the mantle in the first time. - the light from the mantle isn't white just yellow. so what do you think, this kind of mantles bad quality or i do something bad?
I often use Anchor mantles and they are fine, from your description I reckon that the jet is enlarged, Jeff.
Jet is suddenly enlarged? The previous mantle was a luxor mantle, the lantern working very well with that. And i change the mantle and don't work well.. I don't belive, is the jet problem.
I have had jets enlarge when the lantern is operating, one second the lantern is working well and the next second it's not. Perhaps you could fit a new jet and if that solves the problem then that's great, but if it does not then something else is wrong. Perhaps the jet has loosened a little. Perhaps the ceramic nozzel which the mantle is tied to is loose or the socket which it screws into has come loose, do let us know how you get on, Jeff.
I don't know about Anchor mantles, but I use butterfly mantles on my 829 and I have found that some of the mantles are Thorium-based and others are non-radioactive. The Thorium mantles put out a bright white light and the non-radioactive mantles put out a dimmer yellow light. Perhaps there is a similar situation with Anchor mantles.
Jeff, Do you use Anchor mantles on certain makes/models of lamps or do you find they are fine with a variety of lamps?
Hello Matty, i have used them on various makes of lanterns which need a large single tie mantle, but i use them mainly on the Petromax type of lantern.
